The People’s National Congress remains a most viable and influential force in the political landscape of Guyana.  It must be recognized that the PNC gets its support from a broad base of Guyanese who firmly believe that the policies that the PNC espouses are worthy of their support.  Any political party that has the level of support as the PNC does, will always have the ability to shape decision making in Guyana.

It must be noted that the party has been in the opposition for 18 years and in that time its support has actually grown as the current government demonstrates more and more that it has lost its way.  Historically, opposition parties always have difficulties mobilizing its support base. Dr. Jagan would attest to that were he alive today. In our country, the current government’s control of the media and the national coffers, it is able to utilize other oppressive means by which to detract from the PNC mandate as an opposition (for example, control over the purse strings of GECOM).  We are firmly convinced that the missteps of this current government will turn the tide in favor of the PNC since the support base is thoroughly motivated to have the PNC form the next Government of Guyana.
